NTCC offers new Environmental Science course for fall semester
Students at Northeast Texas Community College now
have a new option for a lab science class. Beginning in the fall 2010
semester, NTCC is offering Introduction to Environmental Science (ENVR
1401), which will fulfill the lab science requirement for an associate’s
degree.
The class will cover a variety of topics, with a special emphasis on the
interaction of humans with their environment. Students will become more
aware of the world around them as they look at subjects like the
scientific method, population, community and ecosystem dynamics,
biodiversity and evolution,
climate, and biomes and their sustainable management.
“I am thrilled to be teaching this exciting new class. This is a great
opportunity to learn the science behind the environmental issues that we
hear about in the news,” Anne Semrau, NTCC Professor of Biology, said.
Introduction to Environmental Science is offered on Tuesdays and
Thursdays from 9:30-10:50 a.m. Students must also enroll in the one-hour
accompanying lab course that is offered on Tuesdays from 1-4 p.m.
Environmental Science 1401 is the first of several classes that NTCC has
added to its science curriculum. Students are now able to pursue an
associate’s degree with an emphasis in Environmental Science. This can
lead to a variety of great careers, including conservation, water
management, ecology, forestry and many others. After completing the NTCC
program, students will also be able to transfer their degree to a
four-year university.

NTCC begins August 23.
