Dental Hygiene Program Mission & Vision

The NTCC Dental Hygiene program is dedicated to educating and training dental health care professionals through the delivery of superior instruction, training, and services as supported by our program core values of professionalism, patient care, health promotion, disease prevention, and community involvement. NTCC core values support the dental hygiene program mission by promoting excellence in all things, students as our priority, critical thinking, and integrity by example. Our dental hygiene graduates are educated to accept their community roles as responsible, ethical, and high performing professionals with experience in treating family and special needs clients among culturally diverse patient populations.

Increasing student opportunities for access to health care programs such as dental hygiene is not only the desire of our NTCC community, but also the desire of program applicants and prospective employers. Applicants are encouraged to examine our dental hygiene program web pages for further information relative to program entry. Most questions will be answered by reviewing this information.

Program Philosophy

Our dental hygiene program offers exemplary learning embedded in a respectful and supportive academic environment. Furthermore, the program teaches problem solving and self-discipline while supporting student self-esteem. The primary instructional focus for our program trains students in the required skills for providing preventive therapeutic dental hygiene care to the public while keeping an eye to the life time learning needs of students who graduate and become our alumni. Our graduates value life-time learning and continuing education. These values are purposeful for promoting personal and professional success as well as for supporting "the interests of the dental hygiene profession and the public it serves." NTCC dental hygiene students are trained to recognize their need for continuing education and professional growth by supporting their chosen profession with 100% NTCC student membership in SADHA, the student organization of the American Dental Hygienists' Association (ADHA). ADHA is the national professional organization for the field. NTCC dental hygiene students participate in community activities, and learn to serve the marginalized and underserved communities. The NTCC dental hygiene program promotes strong ethical values and integrity in our graduates.

Program Goals
In order to prepare dental hygiene students for licensure and to meet their job requirements in the delivery of dental health care to the public, our program has developed exceptional learning opportunities. The NTCC Dental Hygiene program provides students with the following opportunities:
  1. A state-of-the-art dental hygiene clinic and program; facility design is consistent with the mission of the college for building in a sustainable manner.
  2. The NTCC Dental Hygiene Program is a fully accredited program without reporting requirements (see Accreditation web page for further information).
  3. Learning through the use of current education methodologies embedded in program curriculum designed for student evolution into professional, competent, entry-level dental hygienists.
  4. An environment that fosters respect for the ADHA Professional Code of Ethics and Conduct; early professional experiences assure students of their future ability to recognize and accept their dental hygiene professional responsibilities.
  5. Preparation for graduation from a basic two year curriculum in dental hygiene promoting
    1. Successful completion of the Dental Hygiene National Board
    2. Successful completion of a Dental Hygiene clinical board exam from any one of the five regional boards.
