Fast track police academy begins August 20
Did you know that you can become a police officer in just 17.5 weeks? If you are over 21 years of age, have a clear criminal history, posses good physical stamina and can devote all of your time to learning, then the police academy may be the right program for you.
The Northeast Police Academy at Northeast Texas Community College will offer a “fast track” academy beginning August 20, 2012. This day academy includes physical fitness training and meets from 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
”Graduates from the academy will be prepared to test for and pass the standard Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE) state exam. They may also obtain college credit that can be transferred to a university and most cadets may qualify for federal grant funding,” Richard Jones, Northeast Police Academy Director, said.
The Northeast Police Academy is licensed by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE). Students will receive hands-on training to ensure that graduates possess the required skills, training, experience and self-confidence to succeed in a career in law enforcement.
In order to be considered for acceptance into the Northeast Police Academy, students must be a high school or GED graduate, at least 21 years of age, have not been convicted of an offense above a Class C misdemeanor and must have no felony convictions. Students who are under 21 may be admitted if they have completed 60 hours of college instruction or an associate’s degree. Students must also complete an application, psychological exam, physical exam and a criminal history background check.
