What CIS of Northeast Texas Does...

Communities In Schools of Northeast Texas places highly qualified Site Coordinators in the public schools within our service area. Our Site Coordinators come to us with a bachelor's degree (or higher) from an accredited institution of higher education in Social Work, Psychology, Education, or closely related field, and at least three years of experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, especially those considered at-risk of drop-out. Our staff work with students who have been identified by their schools as being in a situation making them at-risk of drop out. Site Coordinators work to identify resources within the surrounding communities that can be brought into the schools to help the students overcome potential barriers to their academic success.

Students receive tutoring and supportive guidance to help them improve their skills as a student. They may benefit from enriching activities, such as field trips to plays and museums to help them expand their horizons. They participate in career fairs and job shadowing opportunities to learn about opportunities that may be available to them after graduation. And the students receive encouragement, to ensure that they know that they have a caring adult in their lives.

In addition to providing services to ensure that the students stay in school, Communities In Schools of Northeast Texas coordinates events to help students plan for their post-secondary futures.
