Students will learn the basics of design using the free Canva online platform. Class activities include taking and uploading photos, searching pictures and elements in Canva, exploring fonts and colors, and creating eye-catching designs like cards, flyers, videos, and more. Students will need an email address to access the Canva program. Those with cell phones can email or upload personal photos to use.

Have you ever wanted to fly a drone?  Well, here’s your chance.  This course will teach you the techniques necessary in flying a drone as well as how to program the drone to do specific activities.  Students will also learn safety and responsibility of flying and working with drones.  Come to class prepared to learn some new technology and have fun at the same time.

Act, Dance, Put on a Show!!
Trained or first-time actors & dancers ~ come join in the fun and perform the fantastically fun story, "WIZARD OF OZ." This two-week, fun-filled camp will teach acting and dance to kids ages 8 to 16 as they learn the basics of auditioning, scene blocking, choreography and develop a 30-minute musical to be performed the last day of camp on the Whatley Center stage for family and friends. Auditions for parts will take place the second day of camp (we’ll get to know each other on day one and learn auditioning skills). Every camper will be cast. Those cast as lead roles will be required to memorize lines each night in preparation for the next day’s rehearsal (no worries, you can do it!) Costumes and sets provided. Once registered, campers’ parents will receive an introductory email with all information regarding attire, snack break, performance time, and auditioning & line memorization tips. •    “The Wizard of Oz” is the story of Dorothy and her dog, Toto, who are swept away by a tornado from their Kansas farm to the magical Land of Oz. They embark on a quest with Scarecrow, the Cowardly Lion, and the Tin Man to see the Wizard, who can hopefully send her back home and fulfill her friends’ wishes before the Wicked Witch of West gets Dorothy’s ruby red slippers!

Jodie Stewart Wilk is the Owner and Director of PERFORMANCE SUPPLY COMPANY, an acting and theatre school she started in 2019 in Pittsburg, Texas. She is thrilled to bring her 30+ years’ experience teaching, directing and choreographing numerous plays and musicals throughout Texas, Connecticut and Canada to her new small town. Joining her in leading the camp is her daughter, Liza Wilk, actress, model, voiceover artist, who can be seen in starring roles on Netflix in "Full Out 2" and on Amazon Prime in "The Walking Point." Do you love food?  Do you want to learn how to cook like a real chef?  NTCC’s Chef Charles Reeves will be our celebrity chef who will teach you how to cook with flare and fun.   Your cooking skills will build each day and on the last day of class, you will cook a meal for a guest to demonstrate what you have learned.

Robotics is a fun, hands-on approach in learning programming and design.  Students will build and program robots using LEGO® bricks and software; all while working as a team member, making new friends, developing new skills, and having a great time.  This course is intended for beginners.

Do you like to try different experiments and see what happens?  This course will bring out the mad scientist in you.  You will create splash experiments, mix it up experiments and do some crazy physics tricks.  Be prepared to get a little messy.  New experiments each year.

Learn how to model 3D objects using Internet-based software.  Students will gain an insight into the x-, y-, and z-dimensions and learn how to develop an object for 3D printing.  Students will become familiar with how to use a 3D printer and print their 3D created objects.

Typing has become a very important skill to our everyday way-of-life.  This course will help you build your typing skills as well as having fun doing it.  You will learn the proper techniques in typing as well as some free websites that will help you build those skills on your own.

Tik Tok! YouTube! Vlogs! How are they made? How can you make your own? Join this class and learn the ins and outs of creating videos.  You will be able to shoot your own videos and edit them.  You will also learn the rules and safety involved in posting videos online. Students will not post any videos online in this class.

This course is for students who already have prior robotics programming experience.  Students will be using robotic kits to program and work with robots at a more advanced level.  Students need to be able to work at a higher level and be ready to learn.


First Responder Academy

Firefighters, EMS providers and law enforcement professionals are the first responders that work together to help save lives every day.  Does your child want to learn about saving lives and has an interest in learning more about firefighting, emergency medical services (EMS) or law enforcement?
NTCC Kids Discovery College is hosting a fun, interactive and educational first responder academy.  During the eight-day academy, middle and high school students will learn from professionals who work and train as first responders in our community.
Students will learn about and participate in activities related to:

  • EMS Operations: emergency scene scenarios, vital signs, CPR, Stop the Bleed (a national awareness campaign)
  • Police Operations: Fingerprints, Intro to crime scene investigations, police dogs (K-9), self-defense, gun safety, cyber bullying/internet safety,
  • Fire Operations: Fire extinguisher safety and training, firework safety scenarios, smoke ventilation, emergency rescue
