Course Description
This program is designed to prepare teens for safe, responsible driving and to meet the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) requirements for obtaining a learner permit and provisional driver license.
Students will complete:
- 32 hours of classroom instruction (meets state curriculum requirements)
- 7 hours of behind-the-wheel driving with a licensed instructor
- 7 hours of in-car observation
Schedule
Classroom: Monday–Thursday, 5:00–7:00 PM (Make-up day: Friday of final week)
Driving Sessions: Scheduled after classroom portion is complete (based on instructor availability)
What’s Included

- Learner License DEE-964 certificate (after 6 hours + test)
- Behind-the-wheel instruction (7 hours driving + 7 hours observation)

Student Requirements
- Must be at least 14 years old to enroll (15 to obtain learner permit)
- Attend all classes (no more than 5 hours can be missed; all missed time must be made up)
- Complete all behind-the-wheel and observation hours
- Pass quizzes and final exam with at least 70%
- Demonstrate safe driving skills during behind-the-wheel training
Parent/Guardian Responsibilities
- Provide transportation to/from class and behind-the-wheel sessions
- Assist student with obtaining learner permit after first 6 hours
- Complete and maintain the 30-hour practice driving log (DL-91B), including 10 hours at night
- Ensure student completes the Impact Texas Teen Drivers (ITTD) course before scheduling DPS road test
Next Steps After Completion
- Hold permit for at least 6 months
- Be at least 16 years old
- Complete ITTD online program
- Schedule DPS driving skills test and bring: DE-964 Completion Certificate, DL-91B log, ITTD certificate, learner permit
Cost
- Full Program (Classroom + Behind-the-Wheel): $450 Behind-the-Wheel Only: $250 (if eligible)
Refund Policy:
- A student may request a refund in accordance with TEC 1001, Subchapter I, and TAC §84.200. All refund requests must be made in writing and will be processed as follows:
- 100% refund if the request is made before the first day of class.
- 75% refund if the request is made within the first 10 hours of instruction.
- 50% refund if the request is made after 11 hours but before 20 hours of instruction.
- No refund will be given after 20 hours of instruction.
Attendance and Make-Up Policy:
- Students are expected to attend all scheduled classes and behind-the-wheel sessions. Absences must be made up in accordance with TAC §84.46(f). Make-up sessions will be scheduled at the discretion of the instructor and must be completed before the final exam.
Course Completion Requirements:
- To successfully complete the program, students must:
- Attend all required classroom and behind-the-wheel sessions.
- Pass all quizzes, exams, and the final driving test.
- Complete all assigned coursework and homework.
Student Responsibilities:
- Students are expected to:
- Follow all classroom and driving rules as outlined by the instructor.
- Respect the property of the community college and the vehicles used in the program.
- Act in a responsible and safe manner at all times during the program.
Instructor Responsibilities:
- The instructor will:
- Provide all required instructional materials and resources.
- Conduct all classroom and behind-the-wheel sessions in a safe and professional manner.
- Assess students' progress and provide feedback.
Cancellation Policy:
- The community college reserves the right to cancel the program due to insufficient enrollment or other unforeseen circumstances. In such cases, students will receive a full refund of all fees paid.
