The Northeast Texas Community College Foundation recently learned that it was awarded a Texas Emergency Aid Roadmap Grant from the Greater Texas Foundation. The grant, which totals $122,500 over three years, will provide emergency assistance and services to students who are at-risk of dropping out of college. NTCC was one of 10 community colleges in Texas chosen to receive the competitive grant.

According to Nita May, Director of Development, NTCC identified some of the most critical barriers to success that students face, such as housing and food insecurities, a need for mental health services, access to reliable technology, transportation and childcare. In addition to providing funds to assist in these areas, the grant will also provide professional development for employees to help them better serve students.

“We are so grateful to the Greater Texas Foundation for this opportunity. Not only will this grant allow us to provide direct emergency aid services to our students, but our staff will also receive intensive training as well.  Our overall goal is help our students stay in school so they can reach their educational goals,” May said.

Greater Texas Foundation is a private foundation based in Bryan, Texas that supports efforts to ensure all Texas students are prepared for, have access to, persist in, and complete a postsecondary education. Since its 2001 inception, the foundation has approved more than $100 million in grants to support Texas students. For more information, visit www.greatertexasfoundation.org

“Some crises affect entire communities; others are personal. Either way, the effects on students can be devastating. The Texas Emergency Aid Roadmap program is designed to help colleges be there for their students no matter what crisis they’re facing,” Sue McMillin, Greater Texas Foundation President & CEO, said.
