Federal Aid

NOTE:   Descriptions of financial aid as listed do not represent a contract and are subject to change at any time without notice.
Grants are gift funds and are awarded on the basis of financial need.  A student's financial aid package may include grant money whenever guidelines and funding levels permit.

Federal Programs

  • Federal Pell Grant
The Federal Pell Grant program is the largest of federal student aid programs and provides a "foundation" of financial aid to which aid from
other federal and non-federal sources may be added.  The Pell Grant is available only to undergraduate students who have not received a baccalaureate degree.  Students may apply for this grant by using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.  These forms are available at the Financial Aid Office and must be submitted annually.  Upon receipt of the Student Aid Report (SAR), the student must present all copies to the Financial Aid Office for further processing.

  • Federal SEOG (Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant)
This is an additional grant for undergraduates that may be awarded to exceptionally needy students.  Grants range from $100 to $4,000 a year, depending on your need and the availability of SEOG funds and the amount of other aid you are receiving.
  • Federal Work-Study Program
The Federal Work-Study Program provides part-time employment for U.S.
citizens and permanent residents who are students and have a demonstrated financial need. Students employed under this program are paid minimum wage and may work up to 20 hours per week (depending upon their allocation and class schedule).  Federal work-study students are not eligible for fringe benefits such as holiday, vacation or sick pay, and are paid on the basis of an hourly rate at the end of each month.

A current list of federal work-study jobs is available in the Financial Aid Office.  To apply for this program, a student must submit the
Free Application for Federal Student Aid to the appropriate processing service.
