Ag program brings home awards from TJCAA conference

ag dept with awards

By: René McCracken, NTCC Ag Director

The annual Texas Junior College Agriculture Association (TJCAA) conference and competition is always a much anticipated event for our NTCC Ag students as well as advisors.  This year was no exception, but was a small but mighty crew of competitors. April 10-13th, 2024 required the long drive to Texas Tech in Lubbock to compete. Conflicts with rodeo and biology and media awards resulted in many of our talented students unable to make the trip with us but were a large part of our award winning 1st place scrapbook and 2nd most outstanding chapter.  Each year it is more of a celebration and appreciation of everything we are all so passionate about than the testing of the skills that we have all learned through our

students on stage

 programs.

NTCC Ag Students earned the following awards: The PR team of: Jordon Berkley placed 3rd and in prepared speech by Berkley placed 4th. Quizzes tested our student’s knowledge against other colleges. Proud to take home 1st in Agronomy and Ag Economics for Berkley and 3rd in Horticulture for Jaylen Walker. The accumulation of all points with quizzes, speaking events and scrapbook presented at this competition earned 2nd place in overall chapter in sweepstakes. Lastly- those sweepstakes points were added to points awarded for our report of this year’s activities and based on this we received 2nd in Most Outstanding Chapter!  Congratulations to all our students who represented NTCC in this competition and performed well in their events.  Lastly, we want to recognize the excellence of our Ag Club treasurer, Jordon Berkley who served as TJCAA state secretary and would have competed in almost every event if given more time! He even presented himself the awards as the banquet!
