Posted: 05.05.2011

Northeast Texas Community College will host the NJCAA Region XIV Softball Tournament May 5-8. Eight teams from throughout the region will compete for a bid in the NJCAA Softball National Championships that will begin May 19 in St. George, Utah.

Those teams coming to NTCC to compete include: Navarro College, Galveston College, Bossier Paris Community College, San Jacinto College, Paris Junior College, Alvin College, Trinity Valley Community College and Blinn College, which is ranked seventh in the nation.

NTCC constructed a new softball field in 2008 and this will be the first Region XIV Softball tournament hosted on campus.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to host this event. Not only does it give our local residents a chance to watch some of the best softball out there, it also has a tremendous economic impact for our community,” Chris Smith, NTCC Athletic Director, said.

The NTCC Eagles Softball team narrowly missed a bid in the tournament, finishing the season 25-33 overall and 10-14 in conference.

Tournament passes are $15 per person and individual game passes are $6. Prices are the same for both adults and children. Full concessions and tournament merchandise will be available for sale. To follow the action with scores and bracket updates, visit
