Health professionals enjoy a variety and breadth of experience in rural practice that their urban peers miss out on. They also appreciate the sense of belonging that only rural communities can provide, the lack of traffic and travel time to reach work, collaboration with other health professionals for better patient outcomes, a more relaxed pace of life, improved family relationships, enhanced social opportunities, financial benefits, and more.

A growing number of studies examining the U.S. health profession workforce have demonstrated the shortages of healthcare providers in rural communities. The demand for health care services continues to increase each year and there is an unequal distribution of health care professionals in rural areas. Many rural communities continue to struggle to recruit and retain an adequate number of primary care health professionals to provide high quality care.

OUR MISSION

NTCC Department of Rural Health Sciences supports the development of rural health occupation training programs that focus on activities relating to the recruitment and retention of primary and allied health care providers in rural communities. The Department of Rural Health Sciences will strive to develop innovative community-based educational and clinical health training programs that encourage health professionals in rural communities where they will train and eventually practice.

Healthcare is one of the fastest-growing industries in the world.
