Health Occupations Basic Entrance Test (HOBET) Information  

What is the HOBET?
The HOBET is also known as the Health Occupations Basic Entrance Test. The HOBET is an entrance test given to prospective. The HOBET is a computerized diagnostic instrument used to help health occupations programs evaluate the academic and social skills of new applicants.

What is on the HOBET?
The HOBET is administered by computer. The test taker is expected to have a functioning knowledge of algebra, fractions, percentages, statistics and other math functions. Generally speaking, the reading comprehension and math questions are at a tenth-grade level. The HOBET identifies whether a candidate can interact socially in a positive manner and deal with considerable stress. The exam also determines the test taker's favored learning style. Test-taking ability is another area measured by the test.

The total testing time for HOBET is 3 hours and 29 minutes. Four-option multiple choice with 170 total questions. The different test sections are:

  • Reading which is 58 minutes with 48 questions
  • Mathematics which is 51 minutes with 34 questions
  • Science which is 66 minutes with 54 questions
  • English and Language Use which is 34 minutes with 34 questions

If I do not answer a question on the HOBET, is it counted as incorrect?
Yes, if you do not answer a question on the HOBET, it is counted as incorrect.

What do I need to bring with me when I take the exam?
You must bring with you an official picture ID. (Examples: driver's license, passport, or high school picture ID) Paper and pencil and calculators will be provided. No food, drinks, tobacco products, cell phones, beepers, pagers, or children are allowed in the Testing Center.

How long does it take to receive the HOBET exam results?
You should receive your results immediately after completing the test.

How do I sign up to take the HOBET exam? 

Appointments are required and may be scheduled by calling the Testing Office at (903) 434-8273, or (903) 434-8217,or by going to the Business Technology Building, room 101.

 How much does it cost to take the HOBET exam?
The cost is $55.00 for NTCC students and $60.00 for Non-NTCC students.

What if I have a disability?
If you have a condition that may warrant special testing conditions that include, but are not limited to, visual, hearing, physical impairments, and learning disabilities, please contact our Disability Support Services office at (903) 434-8202 and present documentation for review prior to testing.

Am I allowed to retest?
There is a one (1) month waiting period between retakes.
