Continuing Education Police Academy  

The Continuing Education Police Academy offered through the Northeast Police Academy is a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) approved police academy. The academy is taught by persons who are experienced in their field and who recognize the importance of quality instruction. The 643-hours hours of instruction follow the TCOLE Basic Peace Officer curriculum, which include topics such as penal code, arrest, search, and seizure, report writing, and Spanish. Upon successful completion of the Academy cadets are eligible to sit for the TCOLE Basic Peace Officer Certificate.

Total Tuition/fees for the Northeast Police Academy $1,556, plus books, uniforms, and supplies

The Northeast Police Academy is made up of six tracks. - Basic Peace Officer I-V and VI is Basic Peace Officer Review. Tracks I-V are $260 per phase. Track VI is the Basic Peace Officer Review and is $256. Classes are from 6p-10p, Monday -Thursday, with alternating Saturday dates.

Option 1 Payment Plan – will be paid each on the deadline date in the Continuing Education office

Option 2 Payment Plan – will be set up online by the Continuing Education office and drafted from your account on specific dates (Students MUST have a bank account or debit/credit card to set up this payment plan option.)

*Failure to meet payment plan requirements may result in being dropped from the Academy.

Candidate Qualifications
In order to be considered for Northeast Police Academy, a candidate must be at least 21* years of age, and must:
  • Be a high school graduate or GED recipient
  • Not have been convicted of a Class A or B misdemeanor or above within the past ten years and
  • Have no felony convictions.
*Applicants under the age of 21 will be considered only if they are 18 years of age or older, meet the criteria listed above, and can produce DD214 form showing minimum 2 years active duty with honorable discharge or hold an associate degree or posses 60 college credit hours from an accredited university or college.

Qualified candidates must:
  • Submit all completed application documentation
  • Complete a criminal history background check and
  • Adhere to additional screening requirements.
