Application Process

The Funeral Service Education Program seeks students who demonstrate professionalism, integrity, academic readiness, and a commitment to serving families through funeral service. Admission to the program is a multi-step process designed to ensure that applicants understand the responsibilities, expectations, and educational requirements of the profession. Applications will be accepted year round with priority deadlines of April 1st for Fall courses and November 1st for Spring courses.

Steps to Apply

1. Apply for admission to Northeast Texas Community College and meet all general college admission requirements.  
2. Once admitted to Northeast Texas Community College 
3. Apply for admission to the Funeral Service Education Program 
   1. Deadlines: April 1^st & November 1^st
4. Submit all transcripts from previous institutions attended, if necessary. (Sent to admisions@ntcc.edu)
5. Begin your Hepatitis B Vaccination Series and be sure to retain your record.
   1. Proof of vaccination will be required on the first week of class
   2. Subsequent required sessions of HepB vaccinations will be required at various times during your program.
6. Begin watch NTCC student email for correspondence with institution/program advisors.
7. Complete orientation remaining requested onboarding requirements set by program advisors.
8. Atten NTCC Funerl Service Education Program Orientation.

The Program & Student Coordinator will review applications after the priority deadlines of April 1st and November 1st, and all required supporting documentation to ensure the applicant meets all Funeral Service Education Program admission requirements. Upon completion of the review process, applicants will be notified of their admission status and provided with information regarding next steps for enrollment. 

*Applicant Admissions Requirements: 

• Complete application to Northeast Texas Community College Complete application to NTCC Funeral Service Education Program • Driver’s License 
• Transcripts from previous institutions (send to admissions@ntcc.edu) 
• Reading/Writing Complete (Please reach out to the NTCC Testing Center to arrange -TSIA2) 

Applicants are encouraged to review all program information, including technical standards, academic policies, clinical and internship requirements, and graduation requirements before applying to the program. 

Because funeral service professionals work closely with grieving families and are entrusted with significant ethical and professional responsibilities, applicants should carefully consider the personal and professional expectations associated with the field. 

*To be considered for program admission, students must submit a completed Funeral Service Education Program application and all required supporting documentation by the published deadline. Required documentation includes official transcripts from all previously attended colleges, proof of completion of prerequisite coursework, and any additional materials specified by the program. 

Review Process: 

Applications are reviewed using established admission criteria. The review process evaluates academic preparation, completion of prerequisite requirements, and the applicant's readiness for the rigor and responsibilities of professional funeral service education. Applicants may be contacted for additional information or clarification during the review process. 

Notification of Admissions Status: 

Students will be notified of their admission status following completion of the review process. Accepted students will receive information regarding orientation, registration, program policies, required supplies, background screening requirements (if applicable), internship expectations, and other program-specific onboarding requirements. 

Admission to the Funeral Service Education Program does not guarantee eligibility for state licensure. Graduates must satisfy all requirements established by their respective state licensing authority and any applicable professional regulatory agencies. 

The Funeral Service Education Program is committed to providing equal educational opportunities to all qualified applicants and admits students without discrimination in accordance with college policies and applicable laws. 

Waiting List Policy: 

Applications received after the published application deadline will automatically be placed on the program waiting list. Placement and movement on the waiting list are based on the status of the student's application and completion of all required admission documents. 

Students with complete applications will receive priority consideration for available program openings. Applicants with incomplete applications may enroll in applicable general education coursework; however, they are not considered admitted to the Funeral Service Education Program and are not eligible to enroll in MRTS courses until all admission requirements have been satisfied. 

A student is considered fully admitted to the Funeral Service Education Program once they have been approved for enrollment in MRTS coursework and have successfully completed the first two weeks of class. As positions become available, students on the waiting list will be contacted in order of eligibility based on the completeness of their application and fulfillment of program admission requirements. 

Orientation: 

ALL new Funeral Service students will be required to attend virtual orientation to maintain enrollment in funeral service classes. Virtual Orientation is held on the first day of class during the Fall and/or Spring semesters.
