Mathematicians...

are the problem solvers of the world.

Started

Mathematics is the universal tool to solve problems, both abstract and real world.  Mathematicians and statisticians analyze data and apply mathematical theories and techniques to solve practical problems in business, engineering, and the sciences.  Many people are familiar with mathematicians who teach, but mathematicians also work in many other fields including:  astronomy and space exploration, climate study, medicine, national security, robotics, animated films, and a wide, diverse range of businesses.  Mathematicians are people of all ages and from all over the world who enjoy the challenge of a problem, who see the beauty in a pattern, a shape, a proof, a concept.

Technology and software companies. Software firms that once hired mostly computer science majors now also recruit math majors, especially those with strong coding skills. Companies such as Epic, FAST Enterprises, and Google have hired mathematicians as software engineers. walsworth• Banks, investment firms, and insurance companies. Math graduates work as financial analysts at places like Goldman Sachs, Capital One, Jane Street, and the Federal Reserve. Insurers rely on actuaries, who use calculus and statistics to estimate risk and the cost of future events. walsworth

Healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and public health. Bristol-Myers Squibb and the Centers for Disease Control have hired math majors, particularly those with an interest in medicine. walsworth

Logistics, transportation, and retail. Operations researchers help companies like UPS and Walmart deliver products more efficiently and help airlines and hospitals schedule their work. walsworth

Aerospace, defense, and manufacturing. Lockheed Martin is among the companies that hire math majors, and aerospace, transportation, machinery, and electrical equipment firms all draw on applied math. drexel

Government agencies. Federal and state agencies hire math graduates; the FBI is one example. drexel

Schools and colleges. Math teachers are needed at every level, from middle school to community college.
