The Eagles baseball team moved its record to 3-3 Tuesday as the squad split a double-header at Weatherford College.

It took extra-inning heroics for the Eagles to pick up a win in game one as Matt Durst drove in the game-winning runs with a two-RBI single in the top of the eighth inning to secure a 3-1 victory.

A pitcher?s duel throughout, Weatherford took the lead in the bottom of the second inning with a sacrifice fly by Cody Semier.

The Eagles tied the score in the top of the fifth inning as a two-out single to center by Richard Bain brought in Eric Hughes, who had walked to lead off the inning.

The game remained knotted at one through seven innings before the Eagles broke through to take the lead for good in the top of the eighth. Luis Sanchez got the rally started, reaching base on a misplayed ball to Weatherford?s shortstop. Dauris Holguin followed with a single to center, advancing Sanchez to third and Durst brought both runners in with a single up the middle into center field.

Weatherford put up a fight in the bottom of the inning, putting the tying runs on base with a pair of singles, but the Eagles got out of the jam and picked up the win as Connor VanDaveer hit a ball to Holguin at short for a game-ending 6-4-3 double play.

Mitchell Davis picked up the win for the Eagles, giving up no runs and just two hits while striking out four in four innings of work. Jordan Marah started the game for the Eagles and got a no-decision, giving up one run on one hit while striking out three and walking three in four innings of action.

Pitching dominated the second game as well as the Eagles managed just five hits in a 1-0 loss.

The Eagles struggled against Weatherford starter Ty Sullivan, who picked up the win after giving up no runs and striking out 10 in six innings of work.

The only run of the game came in the bottom of the fifth inning as a bunt by Semier brought in Colton Hall from third base.

The Eagles got the tying run to second base in the top of the seventh inning as Telvin Darden doubled to center with one out, but he was stranded there as Payton Allen struck out swinging and Richard Bain flied out to center to end the contest.

Connor Cashion took the loss for the Eagles despite giving up just one run on six hits while striking out four and walking just two in five innings of work.

The Eagles will be back at home Saturday as they take on Bossier Parish in the opening game of conference play. Game time for the first game of the double-header is set for noon.
