NTCC offers free GED classes

The Adult Education Department at Northeast Texas Community College is looking for dedicated students who would like to advance their earning potential by completing the General Education Development (GED) program. NTCC offers free classes in a variety of locations to help students develop the skills necessary to pass the GED exam and receive a high school equivalency diploma.

"Completing your GED can drastically increase your earning potential over a lifetime. Not only does it open doors to better jobs, but it also paves the way to attending college for those who would like to continue their education," Sue Barker, NTCC Director of Adult Education, said.

The first step toward completing your GED is to enroll in free preparation classes. These are currently offered in Mount Pleasant, Pittsburg, Naples, Mount Vernon and Winnsboro. GED instructors are experienced teachers with expertise in the subjects covered on the GED exam. After an initial orientation and assessment, instructors will work with students to improve on areas that need work in order to be successful on the exam. The amount of time needed before attempting the GED exam will vary depending on the needs of individual students.

"The GED test can be intimidating for many students, but we do everything we can to make sure our learners go into the exam prepared. Students who work hard during preparation have a very high success rate," Barker said.

Enrollment in GED courses is ongoing throughout the year. Seats are currently available at all sites and enrollment is open. An online instructional option is available for those who qualify. Those interested in signing up should contact the NTCC Adult Education program at 903-434-8252. While GED classes are free, there is a fee associated with taking the state exam. Scholarships may be available for those who qualify.
