The NTCC Work4College Program celebrated the end of summer with its annual appreciation luncheon on Wednesday, Aug. 6th. Work4College donors, supervisors, students and their families attended the event in the Student Union Building. This is the 11th year of the program, and more than 80 students participated.

This summer alone, Work4College students put in countless hours of work on the NTCC campus and completed more than 1,400 community service hours. In addition to the NTCC campus, students also worked at these local ISDs: Chapel Hill, Como- Pickton, Harts Bluff, and Daingerfield. NTCC hopes to expand to even more locations in the future.

"Our annual Work4College luncheon is really the culmination of the year. It is a time to celebrate the students for their hard work and accomplishments, as well as a chance to honor the donors and supervisors that make the program possible," Mason May, Director of Work4College said.

Juan Benzor, a second-year Work4College student from Pittsburg, gave remarks on how the program has impacted his life. He said that he would never have felt confident enough to speak in front of a crowd of people before Work4College. Through the program, Juan made friends from all over the world, traveled to Texas A&M University, and learned valuable life skills. He is an Electrical Engineering major who plans to transfer to Stephen F. Austin University.

Rick Nelson, President of the NTCC Foundation and Work4College Donor, also gave remarks. He spoke about how unique Work4College is, and how it is making a lasting impact on the lives of many young people.

NTCC was pleased to welcome special guests from the Texas Pioneer Foundation and the Greater Texas Foundation, both of whom have been strong supporters of Work4College for many years.

Many thanks to Richard and Margaret Perryman for sponsoring the event. Visit www.work4college.com or contact May at mmay@ntcc.edu for more information on the program. The luncheon was catered by Rancho Seco Steakhouse in Mount Pleasant.
