Continuing Education offerings for Sept-Oct

The Continuing Education Department at Northeast Texas Community College is pleased to announce these new courses starting in September and October. For more information about any of these classes, please call 903-434-8134.

CPR for Healthcare Providers†? Open to health professionals only (or those in training for a health care field), this eight-hour course is designed to give instruction in lifesaving skills. The course satisfies requirements of the American Heart Association. †The class meets Saturday, September 22 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in UHS†Room†221 on the main NTCC campus and Saturday, October 13 in †UHS 243. The instructor is Casey Sanders.

Certified Nurse Aide†- Certified Nurse Aides often have the most patient contact; therefore, they often have the greatest impact on the patient.† This 9-week course is designed to prepare students to take the State certification test with NACES. This 9-week course will be held on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5:00-9:00 p.m. beginning Monday, October 1. †Classes will meet in UHS†Room†221 on the Main NTCC Campus. †The instructor is Donna Butler, RN.

Wilderness First Responder†- Planning on hiking and camping in the wilderness or backcountry with a group? †If so, you need this class! Wilderness First Responder is a fast-paced, hands-on, two-day course that teaches the non-medical person how to care for the sick and/or injured in the wilderness or backcountry until professional medical help arrives. †The course meets Saturday and Sunday, October 6 & 7 from 8:00 am-8:00 pm. †The class will meet in UHS†Room†243 on the Main NTCC Campus. The instructor is Michael Tutton.

Mandatory Electrical Update†- This course provides Electrical licensing requirements and state laws and rules that regulate the conduct of licensed electricians. The course also provides a review of the latest edition of the National Electrical Code including notable Code revisions. This four-hour course is required to be completed every year prior to the license renewal and may be repeated multiple times to improve participant proficiency. †The course meets Monday, October 8 from 6:00-10:00 p.m. †at the Industrial Technology Training Center in Mt. Pleasant. Earl Hale will be the instructor.

Art & Practice of Writing Speculative Fiction†- Lou Antonelli-whose short fiction has been published in the U.S., England, Canada, and Australia-will share writing tips and techniques designed to help students become published authors themselves. †Lou, who has two short story collections, is also a journalist and Editor of the Mount Pleasant Daily Tribune. Don?t miss out on this exciting opportunity to learn the Art and Practice of Writing Speculative Fiction. †The course meets Wednesday evenings, beginning October 10, from 6:00-8:00 pm.††The class will meet at the†Luminant†Community Room in Mount Pleasant.

Cake Decorating ? Fondant†? If you loved playing with clay as a kid, you'll love decorating cakes with fondant now! During this 3-day class, Chef Kat will unveil the secret of making and decorating with fondant.† This class meets Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings on October 15, 16, and 17, from 6:00-9:00 pm. †The class will be held at the Hanson Sewell Center in Pittsburg under the instruction of Chef Kat Kilpatrick C.C.

Eye Witness Identification (TCLEOSE)†? This class is open to current Certified Peace Officers.† HB-215 was passed during the Texas82nd legislative session.† HB-215 mandates each law enforcement agency that conducts photo or live line-up?s to have a policy in place which conforms to state law. In this class, students will learn and discuss the requirement of the law, policy considerations, and best practices concerning eyewitness identification.† Upon conclusion of this class, the student will receive four hours of TCLEOSE credit. †The course will be Friday, October 19, from 8:00 am-12:00 pm in†BT Room 110 on the†Main Campus. It will also be held on Wednesday, October 24, from 8:00am-12:00 pm at the NTCC Naples-Omaha Center in Naples. †Chief Jim Grisham, of Naples Police Department, will be the instructor.

Holiday Cooking†? We all know the holiday season can be a busy and stressful time of year.† Is it ?your year? to cook the holiday meal?† Are you a new bride hosting your first holiday meal?† Don?t let cooking add to your holiday stresses.† Join Chef Kat Kilpatrick, C.C., in this 3-day class to learn how to prepare a holiday meal to impress the masses!† Chef Kat will add her unique ?spin? to the holiday meal. †This course meets Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings, October 22, 23,& 24, from 6:00-9:00 pm at the NTCC Hanson-Sewell Center in Pittsburg.

Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)†- Open to healthcare professionals only (or those in training for a health care field), this eight-hour course is designed to give instruction in lifesaving skills of respiratory (choking and near drowning) and cardiac emergencies involving adults, children, and infants. It teaches one- and two-rescuer CPR and airway management for adults, children, and infants. This course includes information on using equipment not readily available to the general public. Course satisfies requirements of the American Heart Association. Certification is awarded for two years. The course meets Tuesday, October 23 from 8:00 am to 4:00pm. †in UHS on the Main NTCC Campus.†The instructor is Mike Hudson.

(Motorcycle) Basic Rider Course†- The Basic Rider Course is a two-day, sixteen hour course. This class is required for†all†new applicants for a motorcycle license, regardless of age or riding experience. Students who are under 24 must have a valid Texas Driver?s License or Learners Permit.† Motorcycles, classroom materials, and helmets are provided by Motorsports Training Center.† Upcoming classes will be Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 6-7; Oct. 27-28; Nov. 10-11; Nov. 24-25; and Dec. 8-9.† To register, visit†http://www.motorsportstc.com†or contact MTC at 877-855-RIDE (7433).
