Jim Swann (right) presents Elayne Peters with a fruit and vegetable gift basket for being named NTCC?s Fittest Employee†of the Month for March.†To receive this award, an employee must†be caught practicing overt wellness behavior and attitude.†The Wellness Committee is on the lookout for a April recipient!

Here are a few words from Elayne about her personal wellness plan...
I am honored that I have been chosen as the recipient of the Fittest Employee of the Month.††I never tried to maintain a healthy lifestyle until the doctor informed me that my cholesterol level and blood pressure were very high.††He told me that I needed lose weight.††For several months, I ignored the doctor?s warning and continued to enjoy all the foods I loved?especially sweets.††During the next doctor?s visit, he informed me that my triglyceride levels were very high.††He said if I did not get my cholesterol level under control, it could lead to future health problems.††The doctor placed me on medicine to control my triglyceride levels.††He warned me again to lose weight and to stop eating sweets.††For those of you who know me, you know my hobby is to eat and most of all sweets.††I decided that my health was more important than all the sweets in the world.††I completely stopped eating sweets for a month.††At first it was very hard, but as the days passed, it got easier.††In order to get my weight under control, I had to find ways to cut calories while continuing to eat the foods I enjoy.††Through this process, I have learned that one of the key ways to lose weight and to maintain a healthy weight is through portion control.††I am now walking and eating healthy.††I am no longer on triglyceride or cholesterol medicine!

So many people say ?I will start Monday? or ?I will start in January? but why not start now?††We are not promised tomorrow, so make today the first day of the rest of your life, and make it a healthy one!††Since I have my weight under control, I feel so much better and most importantly no longer craving sweets.
