East Texans will have the opportunity to join other Shelby fans nationwide in saying goodbye to one of their own next week as the Team Shelby Club will host a memorial celebration for automotive legend Carroll Shelby at Northeast Texas Community College.

The event, which will feature a live simulcast of the Shelby Memorial Service from Los Angeles, California, will be held at the Carroll Shelby Automotive Technology building on the NTCC main campus on Wednesday, May 30 at 8 p.m. Fans will be able to show off their own cars and enjoy fellowship with other Shelby enthusiasts. The simulcast will begin at 9 p.m. in the Student Union Building. The California event and simulcast is sponsored by Carroll Shelby International and Ford Motor Company.

"Carroll Shelby was a wonderful friend to NTCC and this community. This is a great opportunity for his fans to gather and celebrate his life," Keith Fennimore, Interim Director of Carroll Shelby Automotive Technology Program, said.

Shelby passed away on May 10 in Dallas. He was born in Leesburg, near Pittsburg. In his last years, Shelby came back to his Texas roots when he lent his name and support to the Northeast Texas Community College Automotive Technology Program.

"Mr. Shelby was a man who made opportunities, not only for himself, but for so many others," Kevin Rose, Associate Vice President for Workforce Development, said. "We have had many students who would not have been able to attend the Carroll Shelby Automotive program without his help."
