Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) professional player, Ken Herrod, will be on the NTCC campus this†Monday, September 9th, at 11:00am on the soccer field†to offer his expertise to anyone interested in learning about the sport.† PHED 1139 ? Beginning Disc Golf ? taught by PDGA member and NTCC Admissions Coordinator, Troy White, is in its inaugural semester as a class.† Twelve students are currently enrolled and will have the opportunity to learn from one of the sport?s professionals; however, this opportunity will be open to anyone interested in this growing sport.
NTCC currently has a 9-hole course located on campus (those yellow baskets with chains hanging from them), and it is the only course currently in the 3-county district.† However, Northeast Texas is becoming a hotbed in the sport of disc golf, particularly in Franklin County, where the number one and two rated courses in the world are located (www.selahranch.com/disc-golf).† Master course designer, John Houck, who designed the two courses at Selah, is currently building†two more championship-level courses†in Franklin County, set to be open for play by November of this year. These four courses will be the site of the annual†Texas Teams†tournament on November 22-24, 2013, as well as the major PDGA Amateur World Doubles Championships held on April 4-6, 2014.
Navy Ken, as he is known by his friends, has been a professional disc golfer since 2006, and currently resides in Greenville, Texas.† Ken will be providing details about the sport of disc golf, particularly regarding the growing interest in the Northeast Texas region, as well as teaching anyone interested various techniques on throwing the discs.† Again, he will be on campus†Monday, September 9th, around 10:00am, with the clinic set to begin at 11:00am on the NTCC soccer field.† Everyone is encouraged to attend, if at all possible.† For more information, please contact Troy White in the Administration Building.
