SMART Girls Conference planned

Communities In Schools of Northeast Texas will host the annual SMART Girls Conference on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013 at Northeast Texas Community College. SMART Girls (Science, Math And Related Technology) provides girls between the ages of 11 and 15 access to dynamic women in SMART careers.

The keynote speaker will be Leslie Denman. She loves to motivate and empower women and girls. Denman openly shares her struggles, victories and faith with young girls to inspire them to Dream Big! She is a mentor to young people and an encourager to women. She feels blessed to be alive and has committed the rest of her life to serving God and empowering girls and women.

During the break-out sessions, the girls will hear from SMART women who will share information about their own career paths and engage them in some hands-on activities to learn more about a wide range of careers. The presenters are Dr. Cynthia Brown, Therapet, Dr. Mary Herron, Heather Miller, Lacey Robinson and Mary Katherine Milam. There will also be breakout sessions for mothers/guardians and door prizes for the girls and their mothers.

Communities In Schools will provide snacks and lunch. Registration for SMART Girls will be at P.E. Wallace in Mount Pleasant from 3-5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 14. Please direct questions to the Communities In Schools office at 903-434-8212.
