Legendary western-swing, boogie and roots-music band Asleep at the Wheel will perform at the Northeast Texas Community College campus in the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts on Monday, Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. The holiday concert, entitled Santa Loves to Boogie, is sure to help fans get in the Christmas spirit with a Texas flair.

Asleep at the Wheel†has been performing for more than four decades, turning out more than 25 feature albums and a roster of nearly 90 musicians who have gone on to perform and record with some of the top country and western artists in the nation.

Birthed in 1970 out of a love for western swing,†Asleep at the Wheel†has stayed true to it?s roots drawing on the timeless sound of the late Western Swing Legend Bob Wills. Even though band members have changed, Ray Benson, the last remaining member who was a founding member said in a press release that the group has found it?s stride and come into what it was always meant to be, a band.

?I carried the load for many, many years, but I?ve always just wanted to have a band, as opposed to Ray Benson and†Asleep at the Wheel† that?s what we had in the ?70s ? a band, a revue kind of deal, which was the whole concept,? Benson said.

Tickets are still available for the performance, which is sponsored by Guaranty Bank & Trust. The cost is $30 for adults and $10 for students. This event is included in the season ticket package.
