NTCC men's soccer holds on to national ranking

The Northeast Texas Community College (NTCC) Men?s Eagles Soccer team split two games this week defeating Jacksonville College and falling to Tyler Junior College (ranked third in the nation) in overtime. The Eagles remain†ranked seventh in the nation according to the National Junior College Athletic Association coaches poll this week.



Salvador Valencia defended his goal against eight of ten shots during Saturday?s game against Tyler. Gabriel Cavalcante made the first goal for the Eagles at 67 minutes in,†assisted by Rimario Gordon. Tyler tied†the score ten minutes later, forcing the game into overtime. Ninety two minutes in Tyler ended the tie, defeating the Eagles 2-1.



Casey Collins kicked off the game against Jacksonville with a goal four minutes in assisted by Yannick Koffi. Jacksonville tied the score 25 minutes in and neither team advanced until Cavalcante broke the tie 55 minutes later with a goal, again assisted by Koffi. Jacksonville scored again four minutes later and Koffi put the ball into the net once again to regain the lead, giving†the Eagles a 3-2 win.



The Men next face Paris Junior College at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27 at NTCC before traveling to Beeville, TX for a 2:00 p.m. game against Coastal Bend Community College Friday, Oct. 3 and then to Laredo for an 11:00 a.m. game on Saturday the 4th.
