NTCC Rodeo kicks off spring season

The Northeast Texas Community College (NTCC) Rodeo Team competed in the first rodeo of the spring season February 7 and 8 at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens.†The Rodeo Team had a very successful showing, with four students placing in individual events allowing the team get closer to its goal of sending representatives to the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) in June.††

Kolby Miller placed second in the long go during the team roping event, and placed 10th overall with Kyler Bramhall coming in behind him at 11th †place.†Hayley Smith split fourth place on the long go in the Breakaway event with Texas A&M University?s Sharris Vader,†but failed to earn a short go attempt. Sadie Johnson took second in the long go and fourth overall in the goat tying event, earning her 75 points and placing her fifth in the southern region standings for that event.

Bramhall attributes the performance this weekend to a lack of experience in the conditions they are riding, a handicap the team intends to work towards overcoming in the coming weeks leading up to their next rodeo.

?We're going to practice and work on the areas we?re weak in? Bramhall said.

The Eagles will compete again February 27 through March 1 at the Texas A&M-Kingsville rodeo at the Robstown Expo Center in Kingsville. They then travel to the the Texas A&M University rodeo at the Brazos County Expo Complex in Bryan March 21-22.†For schedules, rosters, or more information about NTCC?s rodeo team, visit www.ntcceagles.com.
