NTCC speech professor honored

† † † Danny Moss, Professor of Speech at Northeast Texas Community College, was recently named Community College Educator of the Year by the Texas Speech Communication Association (TSCA). He received the award during the group's annual conference in Lubbock, Texas Oct. 3.





† † † Moss has taught speech for 26 years, including 16 years at NTCC. He was nominated by fellow speech educators around the state to receive the honor. Each nominee submits a portfolio of work to be considered by the Educator of the Year committee.





† † † "We are very proud of Mr. Moss's accomplishments with TSCA. He is a valued member of our faculty and I find it fitting that he would be honored for his dedication at the state level," Dr. Ron Clinton, NTCC Executive Vice President for Instruction, said





† † † In addition to his teaching duties at NTCC, Moss recently co-authored a white paper defending the inclusion of speech in the core curriculum. He holds an Associates Degree from Kilgore College, Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from the University of Texas††- Tyler and has completed postgraduate studies at the University of North Texas and University of Houston.





† † † ?Being selected for the award was a very humbling experience for me, especially with so many other deserving faculty around the state. To be recognized by your peers with an honor like this, is the best birthday present a speech teacher could ever get," Moss said after learning of the selection on his birthday.





† † † The Texas Speech Communication Association is a professional, academic association committed to excellence in communication instruction, student performance, research, scholarly accomplishment, professional service and political awareness. It is open to speech and communication teachers from elementary school to college level.





† † † ?I wish to thank all of the people who helped me with my submission portfolio, my colleagues at NTCC, the network of fellow speech educators at TSCA, my former instructors, and of course my students?who have added so much to my life, I almost feel like they are my own children," Moss said of the award.
