NTCC women break streak against tough Navarro team

The Northeast Texas Community College (NTCC) Women?s Eagles Soccer team split the week with a victory against Eastfield College and a narrow loss to †a top-ranked (number two) Navarro College team this past week.





McKenzia Goedicke kicked things off on Tuesday, scoring the first goal of the game on a penalty kick against Eastfield 36 minutes into the first half. Brianna Dyess put another point on the board at the 82 minute mark, assisted by Ruth Rosales, followed by Rosales scoring the final goal four minutes later assisted by Goedicke, finishing the game with a 3-0 shutout.





Navarro scored on the Lady Eagles four minutes into their game on Saturday.††However, Brianna Dyess tied the score 18 minutes later with a goal assisted by Rosales. Navarro broke the tie at the 44 minute mark with the final goal of the game, handing the Eagles a 2-1 defeat.





Head Soccer Coach Donovan Dowling said that the team has faced and held their own against some of the toughest teams in the nation this year, and he expects the team to make it to the playoffs.





?We proved that we could compete against not only the top teams in the region, but one of the top teams in the nation. We made a few mistakes that resulted in goals for them, but I was very proud of the effort they put in and the team is getting better day by day. We still have further to go but I think we can compete against anyone in the nation,? Dowling said.





The Eagles Women will travel to Dallas for a 7:00 p.m. game against Bookhaven College on Friday, Sept. 12 and then to Jacksonville for a 5:00 p.m. game against Jacksonville College on Thursday, Sept. 18.
