Outstanding Student in Sociology: Todd Allen

The Northeast Texas Community College Division of Social Sciences is pleased to announce that the 2018-2019 Outstanding Student in Sociology is Todd Allen.

 

Todd James Allen was born in 1965 at Yokosuka Naval Base, Japan where his father, was stationed before retiring after 20 plus years of service with U.S. Navy at the rank of Chief Petty Officer. His father retired from naval service then the family moved directly to the United States. His father began a new career with the Department of Defense, to which allowed the great opportunities to travel the world as his father was stationed at different locations.

 

Parents Edward, and Toki, sisters Marsha, Colleen, and son Todd, were raised abroad based on father’s duty locations, later his brother, Terrill was raised in Northeast Texas. Todd graduated from Marshall High School in Marshall, Texas 

in 1983 went to work for a number of companies in the local surrounding areas. 

 

In 1985 he moved to Southern Maryland to begin work as a government employee with the U.S. Navy.  In 2000, returned to Avinger, Texas to where he currently resides. At the age of 53, he decided to begin his initial college education at Northeast Texas Community College in the fall of 2018.

 

Todd is anticipating graduating from Northeast Texas Community College with Associate in Science with a major in accounting in Spring, 2020.  He plans to transfer to Texas A & M at NTCC and begin courses for his Bachelor of Science degree with a major in business in the of Fall 2020.

 

Todd loves to travel and has traveled extensively.  The places he has visited are Saudi Arabia, Korea, Morocco, Egypt, England, France, Spain, Austria, Germany, Italy, Greece, Holland, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Japan, Canada, and a great majority of the United States, courtesy of the U.S. Civil Service prior to his father retirement as an employee of many years.

 

Todd enjoys fishing, hunting, archery, target shooting, woodworking, computers, desktop publishing, electronics, and enriching his knowledge in other areas.  He serves as the church secretary at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Daingerfield, Texas. In addition, he serves as director/treasurer in a non-profit archery ministry Arrows of Victory, located in Gilmer, TX. Currently serves as treasurer of NTCC Business Club and will serve as treasurer of NTCC Student Government Association for the 2019-2020 academic year.

 

 

“An education in sociology provides the knowledge to understand who you are. The knowledge you gain will greatly increase a higher understanding of people in the world around us. The knowledge you gain, the greater your vision and understanding will encompass in making a better world," Allen said.
