The Northeast Texas Community College Eagle Softball team started the Spring Season off by traveling to Marshall, Texas to scrimmage East Texas Baptist University on Friday. The scrimmage was moved up from Saturday to Friday to try to beat the weather.

ETBU defeated the Eagles 6-0 in game one and 5-1 in game 2 of the day. Freshmen pitcher Braylynn Henderson (West Columbia, Texas) was able to keep the Tigers off the scoreboard for the first 4 innings of the contest limiting ETBU to four hits while striking out five.

The Tigers got things going in the fifth and Henderson gave way to fellow freshmen Anna Green, (Ore City, Texas). The Eagles were kept off the board but scattered four hits and picked up two base runners via walks in the contest.

Defensively for NTCC, they had outstanding defensive plays from the infield in game one. Freshmen infielder Giselle Fuentes (Lacissine, LA), sophomore Carson Zachry (Mount Pleasant, Texas), freshmen Autumn Bias (Cleburne, Texas) and sophomore Kailey Hancock (Pollock, Texas) all made plays for the Eagles in game one.

In game two action, the Eagles again limited ETBU to five hits and five runs, but unfortunately were not able to get the bats going in game two. Freshmen pitcher Ashlyn Castro (Wimberly, Texas) would come in relief and pitch Five and one-third innings for the Eagles giving up just one hit in that time.

Offensively, Jalissa Alvarez (Mount Pleasant, Texas) got her first homerun on the Spring Season with solo blast in the top of the fourth inning.

The Eagles home opener against Weatherford for Wednesday, February 1st has been cancelled due to impending weather. Make up date and time still to be determined. For up to date schedules, visit www.ntcceagles.com.
