The Northeast Texas Community College Adult Education Department recently held a graduation ceremony to celebrate 25 graduates who completed the requirements for the GED (General Equivalency Diploma). Twelve graduates were inducted into the National Adult Education Honor Society and the winner of the J. Travis Jackson Memorial Scholarship was also announced.
“It is always great to see the graduates and their families celebrating this important accomplishment. Our students come from a variety of backgrounds, ages and circumstances – but they all share the drive and determination it took to put in the hard work to achieve their GED,” Fredia Thomas, Director of Adult Education, said. “We commend them and wish them the very best in their future endeavors.”
Graduates who were inducted into the National Adult Education Honor Society included (pictured from left back row): Robert Garcia, Charlotte Antone, Kiersten Elliott, Hunter Hill, Scott Morton, Toni Tovar, and Rebekka Patt and left front row: Dasia Love, April Lofton, Lora Leeper, Leona Potter, and Katty Mejia. The mission of the National Adult Education Honor Society is to provide meaningful recognition to deserving adult education students, to improve student employment opportunities, to develop student ambassadors for local adult education programs and to create adult education awareness with school administrators and state legislators. Students were nominated for the honor by their instructors.
Rob Crockett, President-Elect of the Mount Pleasant Rotary Club, and Fredia Thomas, Director of Adult Education, presented the J. Travis Jackson Memorial Scholarship to Rebekka Patt. This $500 award is given by the Mount Pleasant Rotary Club in memory of Jackson, who was a long time adult educator in Titus County.
