The Northeast Texas Community College Foundation recently received a generous donation from Carol Hodges of Hughes Springs. These funds will help the Honors Northeast program continue its legacy of unique special projects, their annual feature-length films, public events, special trips of research, and scholarly contests. Pictured above are Dr. Andrew Yox--NTCC Honors Director, Estefani Garcia, Stephanie Hernandez, Carol Hodges, Andrew Higgins, and Yahir Garcia. The four students are all high-ranking members of Honors Northeast.

Carol Hodges and her husband Bruce Hodges, now deceased, settled in Northeast Texas in 1976. They soon founded the Design Factory in Hughes Springs, Texas. For 40 years they worked with many local companies and organizations including Northeast Texas Community College. She has donated to the NTCC Work4College program in Bruce’s memory and, since Bruce was himself a National Honors recipient, she was inspired to “give back” to help enhance the opportunities afforded the region’s young people. She finds the college’s honors program an apt vehicle toward that goal.

Honors Northeast offers high-achieving students the opportunity to participate in unique seminars, conduct and present academic research at conferences, engage in special cultural experiences and more. They also offer attractive scholarship packages to remove financial barriers. Honors Northeast students have transferred to some of the top universities in the nation and have earned millions of dollars in transfer scholarships since the program began in 2007.
