Northeast Texas Community College is saddened to share the passing of Dr. Charles Florio, who served as president of the college from 1995 to 2008. Dr. Florio was a dedicated leader whose vision and service helped shape NTCC during a period of significant growth and development.

Following his retirement from NTCC, Dr. Florio relocated to the Longview area and continued to contribute to higher education through a brief tenure at Tyler Junior College before retiring fully. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sue Lynn.

A joint memorial service honoring both Dr. and Mrs. Florio will be held later this summer in the Longview area. Service details will be announced in the coming days.

“Even after retiring from NTCC, Dr. Florio and Sue Lynn remained active friends of the college. They established the Charles and Sue Lynn Florio Endowed Baseball Scholarship, which has been supporting students for over 20 years,” Dr. Jon McCullough, NTCC Executive Vice President for Advancement, said. “Through this scholarship, Dr. Florio’s legacy will live on for many years to come.”

Florio was also actively involved in the NTCC Honors program, which was founded during his time as president.

The NTCC community extends heartfelt condolences to the Florio family. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to the Charles and Sue Lynn Florio Baseball Scholarship through the NTCC Foundation. Gifts can be made online at www.ntcc.edu/give or by contacting Nita May, NTCC Director of Development, at 903-434-8113 or nmay@ntcc.edu.
