Kilgore College will soon host a Day Basic Peace Officer Course on the campus of Northeast Texas Community College, offering a local pathway for individuals interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement.
The 775-hour course is scheduled to begin June 29, with a mandatory orientation set for June 23 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Classes will typically meet Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with some evening and nighttime training required. The program generally takes five to six months to complete.
Upon successful completion, students who meet Texas Commission on Law Enforcement requirements will be eligible to sit for the state peace officer licensing exam.
Tuition for the course is $2,075, which includes a non-refundable $75 facility-use fee. Financial assistance may be available through Council of Governments grant funding, depending on eligibility.
Because portions of the training—such as firearms and police driving—must be completed at Kilgore College, students should be prepared to travel for certain required components lasting up to one week.
The application deadline is June 5. For more information about the program or how to apply, contact the East Texas Police Academy at 903-983-8663.
