Looking for a stable, hands-on career with room to grow? Northeast Texas Community College is now enrolling students in a new Plumber Pre-Apprentice Program, designed to help individuals take the first step into one of Texas' most in-demand skilled trades.

The 14-week evening program meets Tuesday through Thursday from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., beginning September 8 and concluding December 10. Students will gain foundational plumbing knowledge and hands-on experience that prepares them to begin working as a plumber apprentice. Tuition for the program is $3,000.

Unlike some careers that require years of college before entering the workforce, plumbing follows an apprenticeship model. After completing pre-apprentice training, graduates can seek employment with a licensed plumbing contractor as a registered apprentice, where they earn a paycheck while continuing to build experience and work toward becoming a licensed journeyman plumber. The pre-apprentice course gives students a competitive advantage by introducing essential tools, safety practices, plumbing systems, and industry fundamentals before they enter the field.

With skilled trades in high demand across Texas, plumbing offers excellent opportunities for long-term employment, career advancement, and the potential to eventually become a master plumber or even own a plumbing business.
