NTCC is pleased to announce that JoAnn Rodriguez has been nominated for this week’s Summer Shout Out. JoAnn is the Secretary to the Math and Science departments. She frequently goes above and beyond to keep things running smoothly in the MS building.  Congratulations, JoAnn! We appreciate all that you do to support the mission of NTCC!

Cade Alan Bennett, a NTCC sophomore, District III Phi Theta Kappa Vice President, and former Cypress Bank Scholar, is the winner of the 2021-22 Gladys Winkle Humanities/Honors scholarship.  He will receive $2,500 for matriculation at NTCC in the coming year, as a top student of Honors Northeast, majoring in the Humanities.

Because of his combination of academic excellence, leadership, and public service, Brian Ramirez of Mount Pleasant has become the second winner of the James and Elizabeth Whatley Honors Endowed Scholarship.  This $2,500 scholarship, to be applied to the coming academic year at NTCC, and available for distinguished NTCC honors sophomores in the years to come, is the result of a $50,000 gift given to Honors Northeast, the college’s honors program, when it started in 2007.  Elizabeth Whatley (1927-2016) at that time gave a record-breaking 1.7 million dollars, one of the largest known gifts to a rural community college.  She and her husband, James, gave over 2.6 million dollars to NTCC between the years, 1985 and 2016.

Davin Whatley, a student at Northeast Texas Community College in Texas, has been named the 2021 Dr. Mary Hood Texas Region Scholar and will receive a $1,500 scholarship. 

Elliott Auto Group in Mount Pleasant recently donated a customized Ford F-150 truck to the Carroll Shelby Automotive Technology Program at Northeast Texas Community College. Northeast Texas Community College celebrated August 2021 commencement on Friday, Aug. 13. The ceremony was held at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. Graduates received a total of 76 degrees and 53 certificates of competency. The event was streamed live on YouTube and Facebook. Did you know that NTCC has a WorKamper program?  It allows full-time Rv’ers to exchange work for rent. Retirees and disabled workers can share their considerable experience and talents to help NTCC on a wide variety of projects, including landscaping, painting, farming, electrical, plumbing, and computer support.

NTCC’s Continuing Education and Corporate Training department is pleased to announce our first Senior Adult conference for seniors 55 and up. The conference will be held on August 20th, 2021 in the Whatley Center on the NTCC campus, 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM.    

NTCC is pleased to announce that Jimmy Smith & Kenzie Beasley have been nominated for this week’s Summer Shout Out. Jimmy and Kenzie both work on the Continuing Education & Corporate Training team. They both go above and beyond to keep the department running smoothly & to help provide educational opportunities to everyone in our community. 

The Northeast Texas Community College Men’s and Women’s Soccer teams arrived back to campus to begin practice on August 10, 2021. After a crazy year of cancellations, moving the season from fall to spring, the Eagles are looking forward to playing a fall schedule again.
