Christi Denney (left) recently presented Nita May, Director of Development with the Northeast Texas Community College Foundation, with $2,000 to support the Nita DeWoody Memorial Scholarship fund. Multiple donations were received to contribute to the scholarship in memory of JW Hooper, father of Denney and DeWoody, who passed away in 2023.

“Sadly, we lost our father as well this year. The family is very appreciative of those who gave memorial gifts to honor our dad and keep Nita’s scholarship fund going,” Denney said.

Northeast Texas Community College is currently enrolling for its upcoming Professional Driving Academy (CDL training). New classes begin monthly. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in training for a lucrative new career in just one month.

It is hard to believe, but we are just four weeks away from the start of the Fall 2023 semester. Classes start Monday, Aug. 28th. There is still time to sign up, but you need to act now!

Most current students should be able to register online in the myeagle portal. New students should visit www.ntcc.edu/apply to get started and schedule to see an advisor ASAP.

Northeast Texas Community College will host its August 2023 commencement ceremony on Friday, Aug. 11 in the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at 7 p.m. Seating is limited, so only guests who have tickets will be admitted into the auditorium. Graduation will be streamed live on Youtube and Facebook for those who are unable to attend in person.

The NTCC Work4College Program celebrated the end of summer with its annual appreciation luncheon on Wednesday, Aug. 2. Work4College donors, supervisors, students and their families attended the event in the Student Union Building. This is the 9th year of the program and more than 90 students participated. 

Michelle Calderon and Aubrey Watkins were recently awarded scholarships at the Phi Theta Kappa Texas Honors Institute. The PTK convention concluded on July 16 and scholarships were awarded. Those who have received the STAR scholarships from Phi Theta Kappa demonstrated academic and leadership promise. Phi Theta Kappa members from any community college in the state of Texas are eligible for the award.

The NTCC Work4College Program is so much more than just a job! In addition to doing meaningful work on campus, W4C students also take a class that covers a variety of topics that help them as they transition into adulthood. These past two weeks they have focused on learning proper etiquette and became CPR certified.

Since 2008, the honors program of NTCC has published a biannual newsletter.  The recently released 2023 July edition can be accessed here on the college website. One can also write Honors Director, Dr. Andrew P. Yox, for a real copy at ayox@ntcc.edu.

The Northeast Texas Community College Professional Driving Academy continues to grow and supply high-demand CDL drivers to the local area. Two new students recently graduated from the program.
