The NTCC cosmetology operator program is a 9-month 1000 Hour certificate program, which includes Fall, Spring, and Summer Semesters. This program is approved and monitored by Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, and meets all criteria for a Texas Cosmetology Operator Licensure upon full completion and credit of the courses and state board examinations. Students will attend face-to-face classes as well as participate in online training through blackboard and MindTap.
Course options:
NTCC offers the cosmetology operator program as both a Certificate Program, or an Associate of Applied Science of Cosmetology Degree.
All Cosmetology students will complete the Operator Certificate Program first. The AAS of Cosmetology includes the Operator Certificate courses, combined with other academic courses and can be completed after successful completion of the Certificate.
Course Requirements:
Students who wish to enter the cosmetology operator program must be at least 17 years of age, have a high school diploma, GED or valid equivalency of high school education.
Course Content:
The program is designed to train students in all aspects of cosmetology, as laid out by TDLR, under the “scope of practice” for cosmetology operators. This includes (but is not limited to) training in hair cutting and styling, haircoloring, chemical texture services, manicuring, pedicuring, artificial nails, facials, and skin care.
Hybrid Course Info:
Cosmetology is a hybrid course, meaning it operates partially online. Our licensing agency, TDLR, allows students to complete 25% of their coursework online, along with the face-to-face classes. Cosmetology uses a digital learning platform called CIMA for delivery of the online coursework. Students complete online work outside of class time as homework.
Schedule of Classes:
Cosmetology class is Monday through Thursday, 7:30am – 12:30pm. This class schedule runs through fall, spring, and summer semesters.
