The Learning Resource Center (LRC) at Northeast Texas Community College hosted the first annual Edible Book Contest Monday, April 1. There were a total of 16 entries in the contest, which challenged participants to depict a favorite book through edible art.†

The event raised $141 to support the Psi Beta Scholarship fund at NTCC. Winning entries received prizes from local businesses. The NTCC Culinary Arts Department also played a key role in the event. Judges were Heather Shaw, NTCC†Reference†Librarian; Chef Will Green of Great Western Dining Food Services; Chef Bren Young, NTCC Pastry Instructor; Chef Kat Miller, NTCC Adjunct Instructor, and Ashley Perzel President of NTCC Student Government Association and SGA.†

"We were very pleased with how well the contest went. Edible books are a fun way for people to interact with†different departments, including†the†LRC,†and to raise awareness†that we are here, and hope that it reminds others to come to us for help," Heather Shaw, said. "I would like to thank the many businesses and individuals who helped make it possible, but an extra special thank you goes to Chef Sara Hicks, I could not have done it without her. We hope to make the Edible Book Contest a yearly event†cosponsoring with the Culinary Arts program."
