New Health Sciences training opportunities

The Northeast Texas Community College Health Sciences division will offer several new training opportunities beginning in October. Whether you are a current health professional looking to add additional certifications or continuing education or you are looking to get started in a new career, NTCC has many options to fit your needs. These include fast trainings, flexible schedules, flexible†payment options and financial aid may be available! †Upcoming courses include:

Mental Health Technician ? October 19 to†March 18†- Online
Mental Health Technicians coordinate mental health services, assist in patient assessment, monitor and document care, and identify personal needs of mentally ill or emotionally disturbed†patients. This training program is designed for already certified nurse aides who wish to be certified by the American Association of Psychiatric Technicians at a level 2. Individuals who are†not CNA?s may take the course and become certified at level 1. †

Electronic Health Records Specialist - October 19 to December 10 - †Online
Learn to manage medical records, perform basic coding, process release of information requests, review patient records for accuracy, and collect patient demographic and insurance†information. Students will be able to find employment in hospitals, clinics, and medical research facilities. At completion of the program students will be eligible to sit for the Certified†Electronic Health Records Specialist certification. ††

Certified Nurse?s Aide? October 19 to December 10 -††Day and Evening Classes
This program provides basic nursing skills for employment in long term care facilities. This training is now required for entry into our nursing programs and is the first portion of our Patient†Care Technology program.

Community Health Worker Certification ? October 19†to December 10 -†ONLINE
This program provides education in care coordination to help assist at risk patients with managing their care. Students learn lesson planning, interpersonal skills, capacity building, and†advocacy. At the end of the program students obtain the Texas Department of State Health Services CHW certification. This course is completely online and field experience is scheduled†around the students schedule. Our students are currently working at food banks, shelters, hospitals, clinics, child advocacy centers, churches, and public health departments.


EKG Technician ? October 19†to December 12†- Evenings
Learn to monitor and evaluate electrical conduction of a patient?s heart. Cardiovascular technologists work directly with cardiologists in hospitals and medical centers, clinics, physician†offices, and mobile diagnostic units. They also work in sales, training, and education. Average salary of $50,000 a year!

Pharmacy Technician ? November 9†to May 31
Pharmacy technicians work under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist and assist in pharmacy activities not requiring the professional judgment of a pharmacist. Their duties may†include compounding therapeutic drugs, preparing and labeling medicines, filling bottles and capsules with the correct quantity of medicine, issuing medicines to the customers, maintaining†inventory, and keeping patients? medication profiles in specified records or forms.

IV Therapy Skill Update? October 5 to†18†? Online & Saturdays
Intended to refresh the Licensed Vocational/Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse?s IV skills and prepare them for certification through the National Association for Practical Nurse Education†and Service in IV Therapy. Students will learn about IV therapy in all ages, Texas Legalities of IV Therapy, and Care of Central Lines.

Are you not really sure what you want to do? NTCC will also offer an†Introduction to Health Professions (HPRS 1101) course next spring. This is an online course that will introduce you to the different careers†in healthcare, plus it will get you extra points towards entry into health career programs. The course is free for men looking to pursue a career in healthcare professions.
