NTCC Baseball powers through non-conference play

† † † The Northeast Texas Community College Eagles baseball completed a three-game sweep this weekend by knocking off Texas perennial power, Grayson College. The Eagles scored a total of 30 runs in the series.††The active bats have been a major reason the Eagles are not only winning, but also lead the nation in Junior College batting average after the third week of the season. The wins moved the Eagles to 10-2 on the season.

† † † Eagles first baseman, Austin Griffin, hit five homers during the weekend, followed closely by right fielder, Tristan Graham, who hit four of his own.The Eagles rounded the bases 14 times during the first game Friday, with Grayson trying desperately to keep up. Grayson failed to close the gap and the Eagles took the win 14-12.

† † † In the front half of Saturday?s doubleheader, Sophomore Pitcher Dalton Algene pitched all seven innings and only allowed one hit.††A questionable infield hit in the top of the fourth broke up the no-hit bid, which resulted in Grayson?s only run. The Eagles defeated Grayson 6-1.††In the night cap, the Eagles fought hard for a come-from-behind victory.††After being down by as many as five runs, the Eagles turned the bats on in the fifth inning and started pecking away at the deficit.††When it was all said and done, the Eagles had fought back to win a 10-9 thriller.

† † † Algene said that everyone is pulling together to make a statement about the Eagles this season. ?We came out and wanted to make a point, our pitching and defense was good, and the bats really took care of business,? Algene said, ?We believe we have a chance to be really special this year.?
