For the second year in a row, Texas Heritage National Bank has sponsored a full scholarship for a Northeast Texas Community College Presidential Scholar. Cassidy Watkins, of Daingerfield, has been named the 2017-2018 Texas Heritage National Bank Scholar.

The scholarship covers tuition, fees and books for Watkins? sophomore year at NTCC.

?This kind of privately funded, full academic scholarship gives dynamic students like Watkins time advantages, and a route to leverage greater awards,? Dr. Andrew Yox, Honors Director, said. ?We, again, are indebted to THNB for this opportunity.?

Watkins, who was salutatorian of her class at Daingerfield High School, has attained a remarkable record after one year at NTCC. With a perfect GPA while taking rigorous honors seminars, she became the college?s fourth $200 Chitsey Award winner as an honors student who most exceeded expectations.† She produced and acted in the 2016 honors film on Sam Houston and the Texas Cherokee, and presented segments of the film in Fredericksburg, and Beaumont.† The National Collegiate Honors Council has also invited her to feature the NTCC film at its upcoming Atlanta meeting in November.†Meanwhile, Watkins has starred as ?Mary Kay? in another honors film.† This is the 2017 production filmed in the middle of August in Fort Worth, on this famous Texan cosmetics CEO.

Last year?s award went to Emmalea Shaw, who was named NTCC?s sixth Guistwhite award winner before graduating in May.
