Last week, the Northeast Texas Community College Eagles baseball team faced Arkansas Baptist College in a four-game series. The Eagles started the series off with an 8-5 win over Arkansas, but failed to claim victory in the following games.
Northeast collected one run in the top of the first after Darien Simms scored on a sacrifice fly by Will Dawson. Arkansas pitcher Wesley Johnson allowed two runs in the second. Back-to-back walks and a hit by wild pitch scored Eagles? Chandler Dean and Jhosmel Rodriguez.
Home runs for the Eagles came in the third and the fourth. Rodriguez knocked one out in the third for a three-run homer, cushioning the lead. Brady Batten opened up the fourth with a home run, but was followed with three outs.
Arkansas responded with a two-run homer as well in the bottom of the sixth.
The Eagles collected another run in the seventh and held off Arkansas in bottom, securing their 8-5 win.
Despite six hits in game 2, Northeast couldn't get it done after a seven-run rally by Arkansas in the bottom of the fourth, ultimately falling 10-2.
In game 3, both teams collected 10 hits, but Northeast failed to make the most out of it, losing 10-6. Chandler Dean collected multiple hits for the team.
The Eagles picked up one run in the bottom of the first and third. Ryan Dudley scored on a sacrifice fly by Kyle Moos and Brady Batten scored after a triple by Justin Bundy.
Arkansas rounded up five runs in the fourth, giving them a 6-2 edge over Northeast. But the Eagles managed to knot the game after scoring three runs in the sixth and another in the seventh. The Eagles failed to respond to Arkansas? four runs in the top of ninth, ending the game 10-6.
Northeast fought for victory in game 4, outhitting Arkansas 8-7, but an error let up two runs in Arkansas? favor.
Brady Batten lead the team with three RBI and Justin Bundy and Darien Simms each collected two hits.
Northeast?s big inning came in the bottom of the fifth, fueled by a three-run homer by Batten. Hits by Bundy and Will Dawson also scored players, giving the Eagles a 6-2 lead.
Arkansas responded, however, with five runs of their own, two in the sixth and three in the seventh. A quick three outs for the Eagles in the bottom of the seventh sealed their loss, 7-6.
The Eagles will travel to Paris for a game on Mar. 2, and will host a doubleheader against Paris Junior College on Mar. 4.
