Each spring the NTCC Journalism Department attends the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association conference to compete in collegiate and professional journalism events. This year the team will be traveling to Dallas to show-off its award wining newspaper and literary magazine. In order to alleviate some of the travel expense, the Eagle Staff will be hosting a Bar-B-Q cook-off fundraising event.

The event will take place on March 8 from 11am to 2pm and will be located on the premises of the Whatley/West parking lot.

The contest will feature three categories for participants to compete in including Pork Ribs, Brisket, and Beans. Awards will be presented to the winner(s) in each contest for best dish. In addition, a ?People?s Choice? plaque will also be awarded. Although contestants are only eligible to win in one event, participants are welcome to enter more than one dish.

?This is a very exciting time for us,? said Daniel Yanez, Editor-in-Chief of The Eagle, ?this semester we gained some new faces to our staff and I am very excited for their participation in TIPA.?
Yanez said that this year?s staff is promising and full of potential and that he looks forward to the competition.

?We lost several key components to our team last semester,? said Yanez. ?Our remaining staff is experienced though, they are great coaching examples for our new members. I?m looking forward to their success in this year?s conference.?

Anyone interested in participating in the cook-off may pick up an entry form from Humanities room 104. Applications may also be requested via email at†ntcceagleeditors@gmail.com. Entry fees will be $20 for contestants and $1 for the public to sample food. The entry deadline will be March 5.
