Alvin falls to Navarro despite late rally

The Alvin Community College baseball team?s season came to an end Wednesday in a late-night match up with Navarro College as they were defeated 8-5.

The game eliminated Alvin from the tournament and put Navarro one step closer to a trip to the JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Navarro will face Galveston College at 1 p.m. on Thursday to determine who will play an undefeated San Jacinto College at 5 p.m

Navarro asserted their domination early on as they scored seven runs on five hits, two errors and two walks in the bottom of the first inning. No runs were scored in the second. Navarro added another single run in the bottom of the third, leaving the score 8-0

No runs were scored in the fifth.† Just when it looked like Navarro would get the† run-rule win, Alvin rallied back to score three runs in the top of the seventh, narrowing the defecit to 8-3

The Alvin rally continued into the eighth as they added an additional two runs. Ultimately, the team did not have enough momentum to catch up with Navarro. The game ended 8-5.

Jake Sutton, Kaleb Goodell, Ryan Ford and Brode Boyd each had three hits to lead the Navarro offense. Sterling Gravens got the win on 1.1 innings pitched. He gave up two hits, two runs and two walks.

Cole Coakley, Kevin Peters, Travis Laird, and Chris Quinn each had two runs apiece for Alvin. One of Quinn?s hits was a home run. Michael Newman took the loss with 7.1 innings pitched. He gave up 11 hits, two runs and four walks. He struck out seven.
