Litzy Flores, Sarah Hamlin, LaDarrius Patterson, and Isabel Tresidder were recently recognized nationally as “Leaders of Promise.” Each will receive a $1,000 scholarship.
“The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation has a long history of providing financial assistance to outstanding students at community colleges,” said Jane Hale Paulsen, President of the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation. “We are proud to partner with Phi Theta Kappa to make it possible for more deserving students to achieve their educational goals and support tomorrow’s leaders of the global community.”
LaDarrius Patterson received the Military Leaders of Promise scholarship. The military veteran and theatre major with ambitions of earning a Tony and Oscar Award, is already highly regarded on campus and in the theatre program. An Eagle Excellence Award recipient and President of the NTCC Theatre Club, LaDarrius also serves as an officer for the Student Government Association and Phi Theta Kappa. He helped found the NTCC eSports program and is a part of the Eagle News Network on campus. He played a key role in the “Lore of Northeast Texas” film produced by the PTK chapter last year and is one of the individuals helping spear head the chapter’s collection of 40 stories to commemorate the college’s 40th anniversary.
Litzy Flores, Daingerfield Valedictorian and incoming Presidential Honors Scholar, plans to become a nurse practitioner. An active leader in high school HOSA, band, cross country, UIL math, and powerlifting, she brings those leadership skills into the campus community and NTCC’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter.
Sarah Hamlin, an English major who is considering a career in journalism, is a chapter officer for Phi Theta Kappa and involved with the Eagle Newspaper on campus. An Eagle Excellence Award winner and nationally recognized Distinguished Chapter Member for Phi Theta Kappa, Sarah also teaches Vacation Bible School and is an award-winning artist. She provided original artwork for the chapter film “Lore of Northeast Texas.”
Isabel Tresidder, a Presidential Honors Scholar and biology major, ultimately plans to become a cosmetic surgeon. She has been involved with biological research projects with Dr. Chris McAllister in Oklahoma and Arkansas, presenting her research at the Southwestern Association of Parasitologists and elsewhere. A high demand tutor on campus, Isabel has served as a president for Phi Theta Kappa as well as president of the Psi Beta Psychology Honor Society.
