This was a big week for news from NTCC STEM alumni. We have learned that two NTCC alumni – Audrey Ordoñez and Matthew Chambers – are advancing their careers in medicine.
Audrey Ordoñez graduated NTCC in 2024. During her tenure at NTCC, Ms. Ordoñez served as President of the STEM Club. After graduating, she earned a spot in the Physics/Astronomy Research Experiments for Undergraduates at East Texas A&M university. Last fall, Ms. Ordoñez returned to NTCC to present her research on the use of salmon DNA in organic semiconductors. She has transferred to UT Dallas, pursuing a degree in Molecular Biology. Now, we are pleased to announce that Ms. Ordoñez has been accepted for a prestigious position as a Summer Intern Discovery Scientist at Johnson and Johnson in their oncology department in Spring House, Pennsylvania. She will be working in the research and development of new therapeutics.
Matthew Chambers graduated NTCC in 2019 with honors. During his time at NTCC, Mr. Chambers earned a 100 percentile on the two-semester Organic Chemistry American Chemical Society Final Exam, and earned honors credit for a research project in Organic Chemistry II. He served as an officer in STEM Club, as a STEM tutor (chemistry, physics, and calculus), and as a chemistry laboratory assistant. After graduating NTCC, he transferred to UT Austin and completed a BSA in Chemistry along with degrees in Government and German. After graduating UT, Mr. Chambers returned to NTCC as an adjunct professor teaching General Chemistry labs. Recently, he earned a 95 percentile on the MCAT for admission to medical school. Now, Mr. Chambers is officially on his path to becoming Dr. Chambers as he has just been accepted into the Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio.
STEM Club meets every Tuesday at 1230pm in MS 124. Anyone interested in science, technology, engineering, psychology, or mathematics is welcome to attend. Spend time with fellow STEM students and professors Ellermann, Skaar, and Murphy.
