Summer Shout Out: Fredia Thomas
NTCC is pleased to announce that Fredia Thomas has been nominated for this week’s Summer Shout Out. Fredia is the Director of Adult Education. She has dedicated many years furthering the cause of adult literacy and helping countless individuals achieve their GED and to learn English as a Second Language.

MPEDC gives $25,000 for NTCC truck driving scholarships
The Mount Pleasant Economic Development Corporation (MPEDC) recently presented Northeast Texas Community College with a check for $25,000. The funds are being used to provide scholarships to assist residents of Mount Pleasant and Titus County with tuition for NTCC’s Professional Driving Academy. Avellanda and Risner win Texas STAR Scholarships
Aaliyah Avellaneda and Maxime Risner, two members of Alpha Mu Chi, NTCC’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, were among 13 recipients of prestigious Texas regional scholarships given out the weekend of the Texas Honors Institute. The Dr. Mary Hood Texas STAR Scholarships are available to members of Phi Theta Kappa throughout the state of Texas. Both students will receive $250 STAR Scholarships
McGraw-Hill poster winners receive free trip to Texas Shakespeare Festival

The winners of the 2021 McGraw Hill Poster Contest at the Whatley Foyer in May received a free trip, ticket and lunch, 29 July, to the Texas Shakespeare Festival in Kilgore, Texas. Together with Honors Director Dr. Andrew Yox, Brian Ramirez, and Maxime Risner, saw Shakespeare’s The Merry Wives of Windsor in an afternoon production.

Honors Northeast, the honors program of Northeast Texas Community College announces a call for poems and images that can accent or enliven our sense of the surroundings, people, the culture, and/or the history of Northeast Texas.
Folk, Fuentes, and Fondren named Leaders of Promise
Megan Folk, Fatima Fuentes, and Skylar Fondren (pictured), students at Northeast Texas Community College, were among the nation’s 207 Phi Theta Kappa members named as 2020 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholars and will each receive a $1,000 scholarship.
Dr. Lampert to present lecture at international conference
Northeast Texas Community College’s own Dr. Matthew Lampert, Professor of Philosophy, will give a lecture as part of an international conference this month. The conference is online and all talks are open and viewable by the public (though only people registered for the conference can post comments or attend the Q&A sessions). The conference is Social Ontology 2021 (or SO21), and it's hosted by the International Social Ontology Society (ISOS) and the European Network for Social Ontology (ENSO).
Work4College Program holds annual appreciation luncheon
The NTCC Work4College Program celebrated the end of summer with its annual luncheon on Wednesday, Aug. 4. Work4College donors, supervisors, students and their families attended the event in the Student Union Building. This is the eighth year of the program and more than 80 students participated.
