Students complete Fire Academy

Five students recently completed the fire†academy at Northeast Texas Community College. They were honored during a†graduation ceremony held in the Student Union Building. The†graduates are pictured (from left):†Aaron Nugent of Winnsboro, Matthew Hernandez of Mount Pleasant, Fenton Godfrey of Mount Pleasant, Wesley Kizer of Pittsburg, and Colter Antonsen of Ridgecrest, California. These students are now eligible to†take the Texas Commission on Fire Protection Exam to complete certification.†NTCC is currently enrolling students for the 2014 Fire Academy.

AEP SWEPCO contributes to Campaign for the Whatley


Jennifer Harland, Manager Of External Affairs, Northeast Texas and Southwest Arkansas, AEP Southwestern Electric Power Company, recently presented a $1,000 check to Dr. Jonathan McCullough, Vice President for Advancement, Northeast Texas Community College. The funds will be used to benefit the Final Curtain Call portion if the NTCC Foundation's Campaign for the Whatley. Thanks to a matching challenge gift to the Foundation, the actual impact of the gift will double to $2,000. Spring registration opens at NTCC



Registration for the spring 2014 semester is currently underway at Northeast Texas Community College. Students may also register for the holiday intersession term.




Intersession courses run December 16 through January 6. These intensive online classes allow dedicated students to earn full college credit in about two weeks. Learn more about these classes at www.ntcc.edu/intersession.†The regular Spring 2014 semester begins on Monday, Jan. 13.

Matthew Jordan elected to GPHC Executive Council

The annual October vote of the members of the Great Plains Honors Council (GPHC), an association of 80 honors colleges and programs, recently confirmed†Matthew Jordan,†a Presidential Scholar at Northeast Texas Community College, as the 2013-2014 Student Representative of its Executive Council.

Jordan, the 2012 Salutatorian of Pittsburg High School, will become the highest ranking student in an organization that represents thousands of honors students, including those at large and prestigious universities.

Eagles Soccer finishes record season with loss to San Jacinto



The Northeast Texas Community College Men's Eagles Soccer team suffered a 6-1 defeat against San Jacinto College-South on Friday, ending their season for the year. The Region 14 semifinal game was the closest that the Eagles have ever gotten to a national championship since their program began in 2010.

The Eagles and San Jacinto both defended their goals until the 35-minute mark when Eagles Forward Rimario Gordon scored a goal, assisted by Logan Humphries.
