Northeast Texas Community College seeks a passionate and skilled Full-time Cosmetology Instructor to join our faculty in the Cosmetology Department.  The instructor will deliver comprehensive education and hands-on training to students in the Cosmetology Operator and Instructor Training programs, preparing them for licensure and careers in the cosmetology field.  This role requires expertise in cosmetology practices, a commitment to student success, and the ability to thrive in a hybrid learning environment combining in-person and online instruction.

Description of Job Duties:

  • Instruction: Teach courses in cosmetology, including haircutting, coloring, styling, chemical texture services, manicuring, pedicuring, facials, and skin care, adhering to TDLR-approved curriculum standards.
  • Practical Training: Supervise and mentor students during lab and clinic sessions, ensuring proficiency in techniques and compliance with safety and sanitation protocols.
  • Curriculum Development: Develop and revise lesson plans, syllabi, and assessments, integrating hybrid learning components via platforms like Blackboard and MindTap, to meet industry and TDLR requirements.
  • Student Assessment: Evaluate student progress through practical demonstrations, written exams, and online coursework, providing feedback to enhance learning outcomes.
  • Program Support: Assist students in preparing for the TDLR Cosmetology Operator License exam, offering guidance on both practical and theoretical components.
  • Classroom and Lab Management: Maintain a safe, organized, and professional classroom and lab environment, overseeing equipment and supply use.
  • Student Advising: Provide academic and career counseling, supporting students in achieving licensure and exploring job opportunities in the cosmetology industry.
  • Compliance: Ensure all instructional activities comply with TDLR regulations and NTCC policies, maintaining accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress.
  • Community Engagement: Participate in outreach events, such as workshops or community service projects, to promote the program and NTCC’s mission.
  • Professional Development: Stay current with cosmetology trends and teaching methodologies through ongoing education and industry involvement.

Experience and Other Qualifications:

Required

  • Associate’s degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Valid Texas Cosmetology Operator License.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional cosmetology experience in a salon or related setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage diverse learners.
  • Experience with TDLR exam preparation and requirements.

Preferred

  • Prior teaching experience in a vocational or community college setting
  • Familiarity with hybrid teaching platforms (e.g., Blackboard, MindTap)
